The book Authentically Me is not about trying to prove anything to anyone. It isn't a theological defense or an apology. It isn't to argue or to convince. I'm writing this book because I need to.
I'm writing it to me.
I'm writing it about me.
And I'm writing it for me.
And if - by some grace - it reaches someone else who has carried the same weight, who has wept the same prayers, who has tried to pray the gay away and feared the gates of heaven would be closed to them...if someone like that reads this and feels a little less alone, a little more seen, a little more loved, then that's a beautiful bonus.
I'm sharing my heartfelt book encapsulating my personal journey, offering a unique perspective on faith and identity, aiming to inspire others to embrace their true selves!
David is a gay Christian who spent 58 years carrying the weight of shame before fully embracing the truth of who he was created to be. Though he never left his faith in Jesus, years of reconstructing what that faith meant to him inspired Authentically Me. The book reflects his honest, faith-filled journey of reconciling identity with belief and learning to live freely in God's love.
While not a professional writer or speaker, David has worked closely with churches seeking to become affirming and has occasionally spoken with passion and conviction about diversity, equity and inclusion - rooted deeply in the life and teachings of Jesus. He shares his story openly, answers hard questions questions with grace, and lives as a testament to the freedom found in authenticity.
Since 2016, David has found enduring love and faith alongside his partner Jim. Together, they live in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, where they enjoy traveling, biking, camping, gardening, and restoring their cozy 1954 home. They also rescue senior yellow Labs, giving them love and comfort in their final years before they cross the rainbow bridge.
Now actively engaged in a local faith community, David walks authentically and joyfully - without shame and with a renewed sense of belonging.
